Golden Jubilee ceremony of Jinnah College for women held

A variety of colorful events were showcased in the golden jubilee ceremony of one of the best female college of the country. The day long functions started with an imperative display of Physical Training by the students of Jinnah College for Women which were followed by Golden Jubilee cake cutting followed by the mega function arranged in Ms. Safia Hassan Hall. 

Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan was the chief guest of the function. VC Islamia College Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz, Principal JCW Prof. Dr. Neelofar Zeb Arbab and scores of alumni were also present on the occasion.

The highlight event of the day was a drama on issues relating to the woes of women in the country. The student actors through their performance showed that exploitation of women in the name of honor killing and worn out customs like swara and vani should be stopped immediately and the human rights activists should play their role in halting the same. They showed that violence against women was prohibited in Islam and anybody committing the sin should be dealt with iron hands. The students termed female education as the real driver of change and vowed to contribute towards the society through their professionalism while proving themselves as excellent mothers and wives at the same time. A short documentary on the historical background and achievements of Jinnah College for Women were also presented on the day.

Addressing the ceremony Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan said that the key to development lies in providing quality education to the youth especially females, because they were the real ambassadors of change. He added the secret of the success story of JCW was the fact that they provide quality education and caters to the various cultural norms of the local population.

The Vice Chancellor said that the college has achieved much over the past fifty years, however much was needed to sustain its past glory and build further on it by introducing new courses as per demand of the globalised world. The Vice Chancellor asked the principal to work on the initiation of O level and A levels in the college. To the Alumni of the College he said that they should pay back to their parent institution by supporting the poor students and introducing scholarship programme for them.

Its just like home coming and a matter of great pride as a Jinnahian, said first female surgeon of Khyber Pakhtukhwa Prof. Dr. Mahmonera on the occasion. She added admission in Jinnah College was a dream for her as is for many young ladies today as one feels at home has peace of mind while studying here.

Earlier Principal Jinnah College in her introductory remarks said that the college starting with only 27 students in the year 1964 was host to more than 1700 students today. She added that the college has been declared as best in BISE Peshawar and University of Peshawar for more than two decades.
