Governor honour gold medalist students of KMC, Gomal Varsity

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Engineer Shaukatullah honoured gold medalists of Khyber Medical College, Peshawar and the Gomal Medical College, Dera Ismail Khan by having dinner with them at Governor’s House here last night who have achieved distinctive positions during the last academic year. The ceremony was also attended by Provincial Minister for Health Mr. Shaukat Yousafzai, parents; faculty members and veteran physicians and surgeons of the province, besides the Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University, Prof. Dr. Hafeezullah, principals of both the institutions and the senior faculties of all the three institutions.

The Governor who is also the Chancellor of Khyber Medical University congratulated the veteran medical scholars, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Khan, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Jan, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Iqbal and Prof. Dr. Tariq Saeed Mufti for being honoured with the status of Prof. of Emeritus and also delivered the degrees on behalf of the University to them on this occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that it was his initiative to have a get together with them and while addressing convocations of both the medical colleges recently, he had expressed his desire in this respect. Reminding the importance of the medical education, the Governor said, it is meant for the noble cause of ensuring healthy people and all those who are responsible to maintain its flagship role deserve tributes. With the passage of time, he added, the system of medical health has taken the lead role.

Because of the concept of specialized healthcare systems; information technology based learning techniques and knowledge driven ideas of economic development, he added, it, like many other disciplines is also in a constant state of change and development. He further pointed out that the developed nations of the world have been conscious of this reality since long and whatever progress they have achieved is a result of their hard work and services in this respect.

Pointing towards the graduates, the Governor said that their predecessors have made their parent institutions achieve certain mile stones and expressed the confidence that they would maintain the level of excellence which they have achieved and would pay back with successes towards further image building of their parent institutions.

“This is what your parents and faculties also expect from you too”, he remarked. Amongst Gold medalists, present on the occasion were; Muhammad Hussain, Waheed Alam, Obaidullah, Ayesha Ali, Lubna Khan, Samiullah, Laima Khan, Uzma Rauf and Alauddin were from Khyber Medical College while Miss Nabeela, Mehvish Malik, Jawairia Nawaz, Syed Sajid Ali, Saba Khan, Ali Nawaz, Ayesha Waheed and Syed Iza Bukhari were Gomalians.

Shaukat Yousafzai while addressing on the occasion thanked the Governor for honoring the young shining stars of medical profession in the province and described it an historic occasion in their lives.
