Pumped by his resolve to change the headlines of newspaper, ‘Girls Outshined Boys’ in examination results, Harris Zad Gul studied day and night to top the overall Bachelor examination of University of Peshawar by securing a record 486 marks. The result was announced in a ceremony held at University of Peshawar on Thursday.
Harris Zad Gul of Oriental Degree College (Affiliated with University of Peshawar), Peshawar stood first in the B. Sc as well. Khushbakht Habib of Jinnah College for Women grabbed second position by securing 468 marks while Shumaila of the same college got third position with 456 marks.
In the Bachelor of Arts category all the top three positions went to Jinnah College for Women among which Neelam Shahi Mulk got first position by securing 423 marks. Fatima Nawaz secured second position by getting 419 marks and Saba Israr obtained third position with 413 marks.
A total of 43,722 students appeared in the examination among which 19915 were declared passed with a passing percentage of 45 %.
Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan distributed merit certificates, shields and cash prizes among the position holder students who were accompanied by their proud parents on the day. He announced free education for all the position holder students in the University of Peshawar`s Masters programme.
Dr. Jan showed satisfaction over improvement in the passing percentage of students in the annual Bachelor examinations. He reiterated his resolve to strengthen Distance Education Programme and extend its network to far flung areas so as to facilitate private students in attaining good grades besides improving their success rate in exams. The achievement of students is a moment of pride for themselves, their parents and teachers, added the Vice Chancellor.
My mission to excel over girls students in examination compelled me to work hard and attain first position, said Harris Zad Gul who topped overall with 486 marks. Actually I wanted to change the headlines appearing in newspapers after every exam results i.e: Girls Outshined Boys. He added that he wanted to continue higher study in the field of mathematics. Hailing from a low income family Neelam Shahi Mulk, showed her desire to become a statistician and was overjoyed by the announcement of free education at University of Peshawar. She has topped the Bachelor of Arts.
The ceremony was attended by Controller Examination Rashid Khan, Registrar Dr. Syed Fazl I Hadi, Deans of Faculties and staff members of UoP.
