Peshawar University sets record by approving 4 Ph.D theses in a day

University of Peshawar Thursday Achieved a unique distinction amongst higher education institutions of the country, by producing four Ph. Ds in a single day, after successful public defences of scholar held at the Institute of Chemical Sciences, Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology and Department of Psychology UoP. Girls’ students yet again proved that they are none less than anyone, and three out of the four Ph. D scholars recommended for award of Ph. D degrees were female researchers of varisty. 

The topic of Ph. D scholar Ms. Sadia Rehman was, “ Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Evaluation of Transition Metal Complexes of Modified Coumarins“. Prof. Dr. Saeed ur Rehman of the Institute of Chemical Sciences UoP was her Ph. D supervisor while Prof. Dr. Zahid Hussain of the Department of Chemistry Bahauddin Zakriya University Multan was her external examiner. 

Another ICS scholar Fazal Wahid worked on the topic, “ Solid Phase Extraction of Heavy Metals Using Low Cost Sorbents“. Director Institute of Chemical Sciences Prof. Dr. Imdadullah was his Ph. D supervisor. Prof. Dr. Izzat Khan, Assistant Professor at Malakand University was his external examiner. 

Scholar Ms. Farah Naz was recommended for award of Ph. D in Psychology after successful public defence. Her topic of research was, “ Development of Multidimensional Religiosity Scale“. The objective of her study was to develop multidimensional religiosity scale and establish its psychometric properties in order to measure the religious orientation of Muslims. She described that in order to achieve the goal a list of 280 items were generated from three different sources namely the Holy Quran, Muzamin-ul-Quran and operational definitions of a good muslim provided by religious scholars. Vice Chancellor Shaheed Benazir Women University, Peshawar Prof. Dr. Farhana Jehangir was her Ph. D supervisor. Prof. Dr. Tahir Khalil Chairman Department of Psychology International Islamic University Islamabad served as her external examiner. 

Ms. Johar Jamil, Ph. D research scholar at the Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology worked on the topic, “ Molecular Epidemiology of Antibiotic Resistant genes in Pathogenic Bacteria (A case study of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). Director Centre of Biotechnology and Microbiology Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmed was her Ph. D supervisor. Prof. Dr. Jawad Ahmed of the of Khyber Medical University Peshawar served as her co supervisor while Prof. Dr. Noor Muhammad Chairman Department of Biotechnology Kohat University of Science and Technology served as her external examiner.
