Political Science department celebrates golden jubilee

The golden jubilee ceremony of the department of political science was held at Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Auditorium University of Peshawar on Wednesday.

A Ninety pound cake was cut to mark the fifty years of excellence of the department on the day. Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Prof. Dr. Muhamamd Rasul Jan was the chief guest while former Chairman of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission Gulzar Khan, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Tajik, Prof Dr. Fatih ur Rehman and other Alumni of the department were present on the occasion.

Established in the year 1962, Department of Political Science is providing competent professionals to the civil and military institutions of Pakistan said, Chairman Department of Political Science Prof. Dr. A.Z. Hilali in his opening remarks. 

The students at the department are taught with politico economic discourse and changing trends in world politics so that they may be prepared for overtaking the administrative leadership of the country in future, he added.

They are also trained to prepare for the competitive examination while conferences and seminars are regular feature of this department, he informed.

Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan said marking of golden jubilee is certainly a very good step towards acknowledging the services of this department, and all those who remained associated with it. 

At the same time it’s time that we do self analysis and come up with even better planning to take our achievements further, he added. The Alumni of any institution are their assets, but we at University of Peshawar are yet to take tangible advantage from them, said Dr. Jan.

The Vice Chancellor stressed upon the faculty members to train their juniors so that the great vacuum created after retirement of the seniors is possibly filled. Life time achievement award was conferred upon Mrs. Afsaar Saleem who was the first chairperson of the department.
