The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved the appointment of Dr Qibla Ayaz as acting vice chancellor of the Islamia College University (ICU) and Dr Razia Sultana as vice-chancellor of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU).

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shaukatullah, has approved appointment of Dr Qibla Ayaz and Dr Razia Sultana on the advice of Chief Minister Pervez Khattak. However, approval of the appointment of the two senior academicians has been given on the file that has been routed to the secretary Higher Education department for notifying it.

Additional secretary Higher Education department, Dr Khalid Khan confirmed the two appointments. “Most probably we will get the file on Monday and notification about the appointment of the two vice-chancellors would then be issued accordingly,” he added.

The search committee that interviewed 18 candidates for the post of the vice-chancellor Islamia College University had sent the names of three senior academicians, Dr Muhammad Asif Khan, Dr Qibla Ayaz and Dr Mansoor Akbar Kundi, to the chief minister for selecting one of them for the office.

The chief minister approved the name of Dr Qibla Ayaz from among the three recommended candidates and sent it to the governor, who endorsed it.Dr Qibla Ayaz would be the fourth acting vice-chancellors to run the Islamia College University during the last four years after its first Vice-Chancellor Professor Ajmal Khan was kidnapped by the Taliban militants on September 7, 2010.
