Raha distributes books and bags among children

Raha distributed free books and bags among children enrolled in government-run girls schools at primary level.

The initiative was taken by RAHA-UNDP KPK with financial support of European Union under its ‘Primary Education Promotion’ through which more than 4,300 children enrolled in around 173 public sector girls primary schools, in 24 union councils of Nowshera. In this connection, a ceremony was held at Government High School for Boys No. 2, Nowshera Cantonment, on Wednesday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Education, Mohammad Atif, was the chief guest on the occasion. The event was also attended by Rabia Khattak, Assistant Director UNDP, Shukriya Saeed, Provincial Programme Manager RAHA-UNDP KPK, Director Schools Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rafiq Khattak, officials of departments concerned, male and female EDOs, ADO’s from district Nowshera, and officials of RAHA-UNDP KP, concerning the books distribution ceremony at district Nowhera.

A large number of students along with their teaching staff, members of community and notable of areas were present on the occasion.

The students enthralled participants by presentation of National Anthem, national songs, and other fascinating activities during the ceremony.

Rabia Khattak in her speech reiterated the commitment of UNDP RAHA to extend every possible support for the promotion of education in the Afghan refugees hosting areas of the province.

Later, Atif while speaking on the occasion lauded the steps of RAHA-UNDP funded by European Union, for promotion of education and enrolment of children of various UCs in district Nowshera. He said that the government is committed to promote quality education, especially to enrol more than 2.5 million children, who were out of schools in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He profoundly appreciated the efforts of RAHA KPK, financially assisted by EU in saving an academic year of 4,300 community school children by timely providing them syllabus books. While talking to the media, he further added that RAHA KPK has done a tremendous job in supporting the education department and is in close liaison to identify and further strengthen many upcoming initiatives in this regard.
