Seminar on Students of FATA, KP held at UoP

Officials of University of Peshawar, Research Library Peshawar and Department of Tribal & Home Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in a one day seminar entitled “Engaging Youth in De-Radicalization of FATA and KP” urged participants to engage themselves in healthy activities instead of radicalization.

A daylong seminar was jointly organized by University of Peshawar, Research Library Peshawar and Department of Tribal & Home Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at All Teachers Community Centre PUTA Hall University of Peshawar on Thursday.

Mr Akhtar Ali Shah, secretary Tribal and Home Affairs KP, who was a chief guest on the occasion and the other speakers including Dr Mohammad Rasul Jan, vice chancellor University of Peshawar, Mr Arshad Khan, additional secretary P&D, Home and Tribal Affairs KP, Dr. Basharat Hussain, Chairman, Department of Social Work, UOP, Mr. Muhammad Zafar, Lecturer, Department of Sociology, UOP, Mr.

Fasihuddin, President, Pakistan Society for Criminology, Dr. Irum Irshad Chairperson, Department of Psychology, UOP, Dr. Jamil Ahmad Chitrali Director, Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies, UOP, Analyst, Mr. Aqeel Yousafzai delivered speeches on the occasion.

Speakers in a seminar in their speeches elaborated the causes of radicalization in the area and also threw lights on the impacts of it. They urged the youth of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to keep themselves away from radicalization in recent time and get themselves engaged in de-radicalization. The youth of FATA and KP should make themselves busy in healthy and positive activities instead of other evils.

Addressing participants, Fasihuddin, President, Pakistan Society for Criminology, reasoned the radicalization in the area and said it enhanced owing to poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, lawlessness and others in the area. He also mentioned that the core causes of radicalization were geo strategic position of the area and our ambiguous history.

Jamil Ahmad Chitrali Director, Institute of Peace & Conflict Studies, UOP in his address said that good governance, rule of law and others could end the radicalization in the area.

He said that both the youth of KP and FATA could be easily engaged into healthy activities if they are being provided the required facilities and the radicalization could be overcome in the way.

Mr Aqeel Yousafzai who also spoke on the occasion said the Pakistani media during the Soviet war in Afghanistan was made radical media and it was modified towards the time need. However, Aqeel revealed that recently the religious magazines are more in numbers as compared to mainstream newspaper of Pakistan, the reason why peoples are moving towards radicalization.

Regarding the media role in radicalization, he said it had played an imperative role while enhancing radicalization in past on various occasions.
However, he said the medial role could not be set aside in radicalization in the country. A great numbers of students both male and female and teachers of university of Peshawar participated in the seminar.
