The Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture, Peshawar (NIFA) and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar signed a three year MoU, here today Dr. Ihsan Ullah, Director, Nuclear Institute for Food and Agriculture, Peshawar (NIFA) and Vice Chancellor, University of Engineering and technology, Peshawar Engr. Imtiaz Hussain Gilani. The purpose of this MoU is to collaborate in research and development activities in the field of biothermal energy produced during composting of agro-waste to be used as a source of energy. Vice Chancellor Imtiaz Gilani said, UET Peshawar has established a Center for Advanced Studies in Energy (CAS-E) to explore innovative and alternative energy sources in Pakistan. NIFA, which is already involved in the operation of agro-waste composting with bio-geyser technology as a by-product, intends to collaborate with CAS-E, UET Peshawar. By signing the MoU both the parties agree that:- Director CAS-E, Dr. Najeebullah said, CAS-E will provide a suitable space and essential materials and manpower for construction of the bio-geyser at Center for advanced studies in Energy, while NIFA will provide expertise and consultancy services. NIFA will train official of UET Peshawar in maintenance periodic forking and watering, after which UET Peshawar will be responsible for maintenance. Outreach activities, including demonstration, promotional training, workshop and “farmer day” will be arranged at suitable location after mutual consultation.
Activities of the program will be jointly monitored by NIFA and UET Peshawar.
