Inspiring change was visible from the message conveyed on the International Women Day function held at the University of Peshawar. The day belonged to them (Women) and how well they grabbed the opportunity to present their case in a variety of events organized in connection with the global event.
The Binte Hawa (Daughter of Hawa) displayed the historical background of the achievements of women in every sphere of life ranging from a warrior to a passionate wife. The drama presented on the day gave a silent message to the world about the injustices in our system and lacunas within the education system of Pakistan.
The highlight event of the day was the women cultural show which depicted the daily life of Pakistani women in all the provinces.
Pakistani women are most resilient creature and can achieve anything if provided with requisite opportunities said Farah Hamid, Secretary Higher Education in her speech on the occasion.
She added that the girl students of KP were second to none in the country and the female education ratio in the province was on a constant incline. Mrs. Hamid urged that in a male dominated society the women should work more hard to achieve excellence in different fields, adding that the prevailing deprivation among women can only be taken care of if proper sensitization of women folks is done in an organized manner.
University of Peshawar is probably the only higher education institution in the country where female students have outnumbered their male class fellows, said Vice Chancellor UoP Prof. Dr. Muhammad Rasul Jan in his opening remarks.
At the end awards were distributed among the participating students and women achievers in the field of education. The function was attended by legendry singer Mahjabeen Qazalbash, Ms. Bushar Hameed, female students and faculty members.
